About Sue

I have always been inspired by botanical form and natural materials. My work aims to preserve simplicity of design, organic line and form. Above all I strive for beauty, because just as in the natural world, beauty brings us joy. I work predominantly in silver, sometimes incorporating organic materials and precious stones. I believe in the integrity of the handmade and the importance of emotional connection between object and user. I am drawn to the philosophy and aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century and its reaction against a decline in standards associated with manufacturing and mass production. All my work is crafted by hand and my materials are sourced ethically.

I spent my early childhood in Australia but my teenage years in Europe and went to Art College in England where I was introduced to jewellery making. I then pursued my new passion, first at a Gold and Silversmithing School in Holland, and then at RMIT upon my return to Australia. I worked for many years in Art and Design education but now live and create in Victoria’s beautiful high country at Blue Range Studio.
